Summer Research & Internship Opportunities

 

The MHIRT summer research experience

  • 10 weeks conducting research at an international research training site (Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, York, and London in Great Britain, the Chiang Mai University in Thailand, and institutes of basic and clinical research in Argentina).
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate majors in biomedical sciences with at least 2 yrs of coursework, graduate or health professions students GPA of 3.0, some previous research experience.
  • Applications for Summer 2008 are due March 1

 

2008 Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership Program         

 

  • Objective: 8 weeks of professional & technical career experience @ DOE.
  • Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences, Busines
  • Application Deadline: March 14, 2008
  • Eligibility : U.S.citizen, 18 or older, 2.8 GPA at least 24 semester hour
  • Stipend: varies by classification up to $5,616

 

UCLA Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)

  •  The programs are designed for students who wish to learn more about the graduate school experience and possibly pursue an academic career in teaching and research
  • Duration eight weeks
  • Deadlines vary   

 

UCLA  PREP

  • PREP provides academic, career counseling & course selection
  • Bachelors degree in a biomedically relevant science within last 36 months
  • $21,000 per year as Research Associates (75% time)
  • Deadline: March 5
  • UCLA PREP online application  

 

Summer Training Academy for Research in the Sciences (STARS)  

  • Eight week summer research academy for undergraduate students, recent graduates, and masters students.
  • U.S. Citizens, Nationals or Permanent Residents
  • GPA: no requirement but major factor
  • Application Deadline: March 1
  • Stipend: $3000 plus meals and lodging

  

SURF ~ Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program

  • Program offers students opportunity to work with faculty mentors @ UCI on research projects.
  • Open to all majors with 3.0 GPA
  • Eligibility: US citizen or permanent resident. Sophomores, juniors or seniors
  • Stipend:  paid in 3 installments
  • Deadline: February 15

 

Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)

  • SROP helps prepare undergraduate students for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors and enrichment activities.       
  • Application deadline: February 8

 

AGEP ~ Summer Research Program

  •  8 eight-week program to juniors, seniors and master’s minority students in the (STEM) fields to work with UCI faculty G.P.A: 3.0
  • Stipend: $2,500
  • Application Deadline: March 21, 2008 
  • Eligibility: US citizen or permanent  

 

 Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

  • NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program.
  • Application deadlines: February – March
  • Eligibility: US Citizen or permanent resident
  • GPA 3.0; various majors
